Training Course on WINISIS
Academy of Information Science (AIS), Mysore and Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore in collaboration with National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT) organized a five-day training programme on WINISIS at CFTRI during 6 _10 November 2000.
Dr V Prakash, Director, CFTRI, in his inaugural address touched upon various facets of information technology and highlighted the need to acquaint ourselves with the latest developments by acquiring operative, manipulative and innovative skills whereby our competency and productivity can be increased; and we can keep ourselves abreast of the latest development in information collection, processing and dissemination of latest information; and find out information about the research activities going on within and outside the organization using the information technology that is undergoing revision, changes, updation and improvement all the time. Keeping in view the very fast obsolescence of technology, he emphasized the need for constant awareness and updation of skills, technical know-how, expertise to render most effective service to clientele and associates.
Dr N G Karanth, Chairman, AIS in his presidential speech traced the history of AIS and highlighted the contributions made by its founder member Shri S V Sangameswaran and his successors towards the development of the Academy.
Prof A Neelameghan, Unesco expert and the Course Director in his speech outlined the historical evolution of CDS/ISIS package and highlighted how this package has turned into a powerful tool over the years for creating bibliographic databases to ease resource sharing among libraries.
Mr K A Ranganath, Vice President, AIS, welcomed the gathering and Mr H Y Mahakuteshwar, Head, FOSTIS and Convener of the Workshop proposed the vote of thanks at the end of the inaugural session.
The training programme attended by twenty participants representing research organisations, academic institutions, etc. hailed from all over India. The course covered: (i) Features of WINISIS 1.31 in comparison to those of CDS/ISIS (DOS version), (ii) System installation, SYSPAR.PAR parameters, (iii) Database creation and updation, (iv) Database editing, inverted file, search methodologies, global replacement, etc. and (v) integrated and multiple database design, searching and printing of records. The training programme comprised lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on practice. Prof A Neelameghan acted as the resource person.
The valedictory session of the course was held on 10 November 2000. Dr K K Sakkaraiah, Head, HRD, CFTRI, gave away the certificates to the participants. Mr H Y Mahakuteswar proposed the vote of thanks. [Text modified]

National Seminar on Library Cooperation in a Networked World
The Seminar is going to be organized during 25 _26 May 2001 under the joint auspices of CHMK Library and the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calicut.

The Workshop going to be organized during 11-15 June 2001 under the joint collaboration of NASSDOC and INFLIBNET at INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmedabad is being sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi and Netherlands Foundation for the Advancement of Tropical Research, the Hague.

NISSAT-RRL Workshop on Knowledge Management
NISSAT, DSIR in collaboration with Regional Research Laboratort (RRL) will organize a two-day workshop on Knowledge Management (KM) at RRL, Bhubaneswar during August 30-31, 2001.
Programme Content: Introduction to KM; Principles of KM; KM Tools and Techniques; KM Applications and Approaches; and Knowledge Management vs. Information Management.
